ISAAC VAN BUREN “I.V.” AND ELIZABETH A. (HILL) MCCUNE
Isaac Van Buren “I.V.” McCune (b. May 1838 in Illinois) married Elizabeth A. Hill (b. 1835 in Ohio) Jan. 11, 1858 in Pike Cnty., Illinois. They came to Crawford County sometime before 1870, as the 1870 census shows I.V., Elizabeth, and their oldest daughter Emma L. residing in Osage Township of that county. Ten years later, the census document of 1880 shows the family of three living in the “village of McCune”. The older daughter, Emma, has left the household but their second daughter Ella, age 6, is included in the household. I.V. is credited in at least one account as having built the second business establishment in McCune “in the fall following the May that the town was platted.” In the 1880 census his stated occupation is butcher. Isaac and Elizabeth had two daughters. Elizabeth died Jan. 4, 1916 and I.V. passed just a few months later on April 26, 1916. They are both buried in the McCune Cemetery. The two daughters are:
Emma L. (b. Dec. 1858 in Illinois) married Benjamin F. Ball May 25, 1879. They had four children: Arthur G., Isaac F., Bertha B., and Mary E. Emma, Benjamin, and Bertha are buried in the McCune Cemetery.
Ella Laura (b. Feb. 14, 1874 in McCune, KS) married Christian Wilson Stater in Butte, South Dakota Jan. 3, 1917. They had a son named Gordon DeLoss Stater. The family moved out of the area by 1930 when the census shows him selling real estate in Oklahoma City, OK.
